As an Apprentice Office based Quantity Surveyor & Estimator/Material Buyer and who's role will typically be:

Primarily assisting with Estimating and Material buying, and also gaining experience in onsite Quantity Surveying.

As a guide the role will be 60% Estimating, 30% Materials Buying and 10% On site Quantity Surveying.


You will be involved in preparing estimates for building Projects based on Bills of Quantities. Gain expertise in digitalised take offs using Bluebeam Revu. Gather quotations from suppliers and Sub contractors. Helping prepare bids for new Contracts.

Materials Buyer:

You will work with the site team to obtain quotations from Suppliers. Undertake Materials comparisons, negotiate with material suppliers and place orders.

On Site Quantity Surveying:

You will gain experience in the principals of measurements for building projects and assist with onsite measuring.

On this 5-year chartered surveyor BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying degree apprenticeship, you'll spend 1 day a week studying for your degree and the other 4 days in work.

You'll also incorporate detail learning in areas such as construction design. And you'll develop knowledge and some understanding in areas such as property economics, law and contracts, planning procedures and practice, project management, problem solving, valuation, procurement, and contract administration dispute resolution.

By the end of your apprenticeship, you'll be able to confidently tackle the social, economic, and technical issues around construction projects of various sizes from the minor works projects to projects circa £2m. You'll get to put the skills you learn to work instantly in your job and contribute to the success of your company.

Desired qualifications

  • 112-128 points to include a minimum of 2 A levels, (or equivalent)

All applicants to the Degree Apprenticeship courses must have an:
  • GCSEs at grades C/4 or above(or equivalent) in maths and English

Candidates with an HNC in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent) can join thiscourse at Year 2 subject to recognition of their prior learning.

Future prospects

Future prospects When you graduate, you will have the academic and work-based experience that you need to register for the RICS Assessment ofProfessional Competence (APC). Upon passing the APC, you will be a Chartered Surveyor.
