Trainee Senior Enhanced Care Assistant

University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust's Enhanced Care Team is looking to recruit trainee Senior Enhanced Care Assistants. This is an ideal opportunity for those wishing to further their career in healthcare.

At UHCW, we fully support our employees to develop and progress in their chosen career pathway. On successful completion of the Apprenticeship programme, after approximately 18 months in post and on completion of NVQ3, the post holder will progress to the Senior Enhanced Care Assistant post (Band 3).

There are also opportunities for post holders to be involved in service development, service promotion and education across the trust as we strive to continually develop and improve our services and raise awareness to best meet our patient care needs. There may also be opportunities for rotation in other ward areas, with development opportunities considered on request.

The role of the Enhanced Care Assistant is to contribute to the delivery of patient care under the direction and supervision of the enhanced care team manager and ward nursing teams. The post holder will be assigned on a one-to-one basis to provide enhanced observations for patients who are at high risk of harm to themselves and/or others. You can be assigned to any of our busy adult wards. Applicants will need to be self-motivated and use their initiative when necessary; you will be a key resource for wards caring for patients who have challenging behaviours or who are high risk of harm to themselves and/or others. Your knowledge and experience in these areas will be important in supporting the wards to develop strategies for reducing distress and risk whilst working as part of a team to provide high quality care for patients.

Applicants must have demonstrable experience in one of the following settings:
  • Acute Hospital
  • Mental Health Unit
  • Community Healthcare

Applicants must hold a Level 2 qualification, in any subject, and be willing to undertake the Level 3 Senior Health Care Support Worker Apprenticeship once in post. In order to enrol onto the Apprenticeship, applicants must be able to demonstrate English and Maths skills equivalent to Level 1 qualifications. Anyone shortlisted that does not hold formal English and Maths qualifications at Level 1, will be expected to undertake a first stage literacy and numeracy Level 1 assessment.

The post holder will be expected to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service; working days/nights/weekends.
