Do you have lived experience of the criminal justice system along with mental health issues or other vulnerabilities?

If so, the Criminal Justice Liaison & Diversion Service is looking for a Lived Experience Apprentice Support Worker who is able to draw upon and share their experiences in order to inspire and support others in similar situations.

Support workers play a pivotal role in the service, working with service users to provide support with any practical concerns or difficulties that may be affecting their mental health and wellbeing. They provide time limited, 1 to 1 support to allow service users to access a wide range of agencies and services, such as housing, benefits and health.

NHS England and Improvement are supporting the development of apprentices with lived experience into pathways of employment. The successful applicant will have lived experience of engaging with the Criminal Justice System, Mental Health or Drug and Alcohol Services. This is an essential aspect of this role as you will use your own personal experience to engage others and support them to engage with the services that will promote their recovery. We appreciate some applicants may find it challenging to talk about lived experience, but you can be assured that we maintain a supportive and non-judgemental approach at all times.

As an all-age service, you will be working with adults and children with a complex range of mental health needs and other vulnerabilities who have come into contact with the criminal justice system. A key function in the role will be to work in close liaison with and build links between partner agencies and supporting effective enablement for vulnerable adults and children. Because the role involves working with vulnerable people this this post will be subject to a DBS check.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and be able to draw on their own experiences to help others.

This is a 15 month apprenticeship, during which time you will study for the Level 2 Healthcare Support Worker qualification and Care Certificate. Your studies will be enhanced by skills you will develop whilst working closely with the team's experienced support workers. We also have an exciting programme of placements with partner agencies such drug and alcohol services and Citizens Advice, as well as the chance to shadow other services within the Trust. The position is 30 hours per week and we are happy to consider flexible working patterns that fit in with the needs of the service.

Expected start date will be in line with academic term dates at the beginning of September.

The successful applicant is required to hold a full and valid UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work purposes.

Our existing apprentices or any member of the team will be happy to discuss the role with you - please contact us on 01202 705526 before applying.
