About the apprenticeship

Duties

Duties will include being involved in all manner of electrical work, from refurbishments, design and re-wires to eventual testing and inspection. Work will be performed on-site in commercial, domestic and industrial properties, you will learn how to install and perform maintenance of electrical systems. Other labouring duties also to be carried out as required when on-site, e.g. maintaining a clean and tidy work area in line with health & safety working practices.

Additional information

Before applying for this position please ensure you are able to travel to and from the place of employment in Bridgend and to the XR Training Centre in Pyle once a week. You will be employed full-time as an Apprentice Electrical Engineer by this company based in Bridgend. You will be enrolled onto a level 2 foundation apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering, and undertake the following qualifications:
- NVQ Diploma in Engineering Maintenance & Installation
- VRQ Diploma in Electrical Installation
- Essential Skills in Application of Number, Communication and Digital Literacy level 1

Skills

Candidates must be punctual. Candidates must be flexible with hours worked. Candidates should hold at least a GCSE in Mathematics at grade C or above. Must be able to work with others as a part of a team. Must be able to follow instructions and ask for guidance when necessary. Candidates should be enthusiastic and committed to both the job and the training. Prior electrical experience desirable but not essential. Ability to drive is desirable but not essential, as long as candidate is prepared to travel back and forth to the XR Training Centre in Pyle and the place of employment. Must recognise the importance of attending XR Training once a week in order to achieve qualifications in a timely manner.

GCSEs in Maths and English at grades C or above.

Suitable candidates may be invited to an informal interview at the training provider (XR Training) before having their CV forwarded directly to the employer. This will be to ensure suitability for the apprenticeship programme. You will then be under consideration for final interview which will take place at the employers' premises. Who can apply?

To be eligible to apply you:

  • will be at least 16 years of age at the time of making your application
  • will not be in full-time education (you can apply while still attending school/college/university but will have finished or intend to finish your studies by the time your apprenticeship starts)
  • will need to meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements to apply.

ALS eligibility

Please note that ALS our training providers have their own eligibility in order to provide the funding required to undertake an apprenticeship. You may not be eligible to apply if:

  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in ICT, Software, Web and Telecoms or a similar subject
  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in Business Administration, Customer Service or a similar subject

What are the benefits?  

How much will I be paid?

You will earn £19,240 a year while training. When you pass your apprenticeship you can apply for a permanent job at the Welsh Government. Within 2 years of starting your apprenticeship you could be earning £22,500. 

You will get 31 days holidays as well as 10 public and privilege days. We offer flexible working arrangements to help you get the right work/life balance. You will also be eligible for membership of the Civil Service Pension Scheme
