  • Working alongside and supporting the wider team with development tasks
  • Using core development languages daily
  • Producing and maintaining content for all White Stuff websites
  • Ensuring all requirements on the brief are met
  • Communicating with other departments across the business on developing and maintaining site content
  • Ensuring that the websites are optimal in terms of design requirement and page load
  • Ensure compatibility across all major devices and browsers, and the existing website's code
  • Ensuring all content has relevant metadata and is correctly optimised for SEO purposes
  • Ensure content is following at least the most basic accessibility guidelines
  • Highlighting areas of potential improvement to development of the websites


Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Ability to work to a deadline
  • Open to taking guidance from senior members of the team
  • Understanding of Responsive Web Design ideology and frameworks
  • Experience with XHTML & CSS2
  • Knowledge of multiple Internet browsers
  • A sound knowledge of working to a brief and be able to turn a design quickly and efficiently into a fully functioning web page


Personal qualities

  • A strong interest in becoming part of the growing eCommerce world
  • Knowledge of JavaScript & jQuery - advantage
  • Knowledge of HTML5 & CSS3 - advantage
  • Knowledge of using browser Developer Tools (such as Chrome DevTools) - advantage


Desired qualifications

  • Five GCSE grades C - A* (4-9) or equivalent, including English and maths
  • Level 3 qualification (A level, BTEC or equivalent)
  • Three months' prior coding experience


Future prospects

After your Software Engineering apprenticeship, you can progress into a junior developer role (this includes web and app development). You'll have the skills to continue growing within a tech team and have enough knowledge/experience to pick up new languages with ease. Software Engineering Level 4 will also provide a good foundation for transitioning into data science
