Job Description

As a Palliative & Symptom Control CNS you will be work closely with the Consultant Palliative Physician, as well as with other members of the MDT to provide the highest standards of specialist nursing care to patients with complex palliative care and End of Life Care (EOLC) needs.

Job Type:This is a full-time, permanent position, working 37.5 hours per week.

Shifts:Working 8am-6pm shift; Mon-Sat; one Saturday shift per month, while some flexibility would be expected as per service needs.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Independently manage own caseload & responsible for the care and management of patients with life limiting illnesses including the provision of specialist symptom control, social, emotional and spiritual care for the patient and family.
  • Ensure continual optimal care for inpatients, outpatients and their families.
  • Facilitate and support healthcare teams to implement evidence-based practice, and will contribute to the development of the Palliative and EOL Care Services at The London Clinic.
  • Ensure that policies, protocols, and guidelines for palliative care patients are developed and implemented, as well as participate in the service review and improvement.
  • Initiate and audit the clinical effectiveness of the palliative care service in conjunction with the Palliative Care Physician and the members of the Medical Oncology team.

Skills & Experience
  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC pin.
  • Post-Graduate Diploma in Palliative Care Nursing or equivalent, and/or evidence of Masters level learning or prepared to work towards.
  • Considerable post registration experience in an acute hospital within an oncology setting with experience in palliative care or area of relevance.
  • Clinical leadership qualities, including team working and team building skills, with excellent communication & organisational skills, and the ability to problem solve in all types of situations.
  • Level 2 Psychological Care Training or systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) course is desirable.
