Joining the teams at University Hospitals Dorset you will be taking up the many opportunities that Dorset has to offer in the way of a rewarding work life balance.

We are located within an area of amazing beauty which includes opportunities to drive, walk, run, swim or cycle in the New Forest , in the Purbecks, along miles of golden beaches and the Jurassic coastline. Bournemouth is a vibrant university town with a wide selection of restaurants and cafes; theatres, cinemas and sporting activities and Poole attracts many visitors, has a large natural harbour and is perfect for water sports or relaxing at a quayside restaurant.

Transport links are excellent with Bournemouth International airport, Cross-channel ferry terminals at Poole and direct train access to London.

Please note: all staff being recruited are expected to be available to work flexibly across all our Trust locations when service demands require it.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Full time Optometrist to join our friendly Ophthalmology department based mainly at Royal Bournemouth Hospital. Part time applications will also be considered for a minimum of 2 days per week.

The clinical workload will involve 2 types of core clinics including the assessment of new and current patients attending the contact lens optometry service where we provide therapeutic contact lens fittings and aftercare for a wide variety of patients. The 2nd core role will include paediatric refraction (both with and without cycloplegia) at RBH and also off-site at our other local hospitals. On the job training and supervision will be provided.

You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, liaising closely with a team of five experienced Optometrists, Consultant Ophthalmologists, Orthoptists, nurses, ophthalmic technicians and other support staff.

The successful post holder should have a BSc in Optometry and be registered with the General Optical Council.
