Due to our continuing success and growth, we are looking to recruit an Apprentice to join and manage our Cost Management team as a Assistant Quantity Surveyor, where you will be working in a multi-disciplinary consultancy office based in central Bristol

We can offer a variety of exciting projects in higher education, healthcare, local authority, commercial, retail, schools and public services sectors

As part of the role, you will be fully supported by our team and our QS Directors to learn and develop in the role, eventually becoming RICS qualified and becoming a Quantity Surveyor. We have a full development plan to support employees within our organisation so if you want to have a clear career path all the way to a Director then you can achieve this within our Company.

The Assistant Quantity Surveyor role primarily consists of supporting Quantity Surveying team on all commercial and financial aspects of construction projects. The role involves working with Project Team to allow projects be delivered safely, on time and to budget whilst ensuring high levels of client satisfaction.

Daily Duties:
  • Undertake project measurements using Cost-X and BIM
  • Assist with the production of cost plans
  • Assist with the costing of option studies
  • Undertake benchmarking activities and input costs into data bases
  • Undertake market research of material costs including obtaining quotations from suppliers
  • Assist with life cycle cost plans
  • Assist with the production of cash flows
  • Assist with production of risk register, including costings
  • Assist with value engineering and value management activities
  • Assist with the production of the procurement report
  • Assist with the preparation of tender documentation
  • Assist with the production of bill of quantities/pricing documents
  • Assist and support with the tender process
  • Assist with tender evaluations and tender reports
  • Assist with the negotiation of the contract
  • Assisting with the production and collation of contract documents
  • Attend site visits and meetings with colleagues, clients, and other consultants
  • Undertake Interim and final assessment of valuations
  • Assist with the production of cost reports
  • Assist with the change control process
  • Support in the evaluation of post contract variations
  • Support the contract administrator/employer's agent
  • Assisting the negotiation of final accounts
  • Assist with dispute and loss and expense claims
  • Undertake comp checks of financial documents
  • Follow Practice procedures concerning quality assurance
  • Always take personal responsibility for the health and safety of self and others by working within the Health and Safety policy and procedures
  • Any other duties as reasonably required of the role

Desired qualifications

  • Apprentices should be engaged and motivated, with a minimum of Grade C/4 or above in English Language and Mathematics at GCSE and at least two A levels or a Higher National Certificate (HNC) Construction
  • Tariff points:112
  • GCSE:For all applicants, Grade C/4 or above in English Language and Mathematics, or equivalent. Please note the University does not accept Level 2 Key Skills, Functional Skills or Certificates in Adult Numeracy and Literacy as suitable alternatives to GCSEs
  • A-level subjects:No specific subjects required. Points from General Studies and AS-Level subjects (not taken onto full A-Level) can be included towards overall tariff. You must have a minimum of two A-Levels
  • EDEXCEL (BTEC) Diploma:No specific subjects required
  • Access:Achievement of the Access to HE Diploma; to include 15 level 3 credits at merit
  • Baccalaureate IB:No specific subjects required
