You will be the first point of contact for IT security related advice. You will actively seek to understand current security threats in the IT environment and use various control methods and governance to minimise impact to Hampshire County Council.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Maintain security standards, procedures, and controls to manage and evaluate risk, with a mind-set of continuous process improvement
  • Report on the effectiveness of software security and compliance controls as well as risk mitigation strategies
  • Contribute to all team initiatives that involves information security, championing the security awareness programme
  • Participate in the programme of planned, risk-based, information security audits, tracking all opportunities for improvement and non-conformities
  • Be the ambassador for all IT policies and processes, tracking, reviewing, updating and publishing against an agreed schedule
  • Investigate potential and confirmed information security incidents in accordance with the security incident management process, producing reports and recommendations that will assist with execution and traceability of required remedial actions
  • Reporting, analysing, and developing plans that will assist in reducing the impact severity and frequency of security incidents
  • Collaborating with the IT community to revise and enhance SMS processes and procedures to meet the requirements of ISO 27001:2017
  • Respond to enquiries from IT staff and provide security and data protection advice as required
  • Keep up to date with emerging security trends, developments, risks, threats and control measures and to be an active member of relevant security and data protection management communities
  • Continuously assess any shortfall between actual security measures in place and being effective, and those established at a policy level to highlight deficiencies for remedial action and policy improvement
  • Participate in Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery and IT Service continuity planning
  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grading of the post

Personal qualities

Ideally you will have some experience within an IT environment however this is not essential as full training will be given to enable the right candidate to succeed.

Desired qualifications

Candidates must hold a relevant IT/Tech related Level 3 qualification which may include:
  • A-level
  • BTEC Diplomas/Extended Diplomas, Scottish and Irish Highers
  • Access to HE Diplomas or the International Baccalaureate.

If you hold a Cyber related Degree, you may not be eligible for this apprenticeship.
