Overall Job Purpose:

Information Security is critical to the ongoing success and reputation of the Specialist Computer Centre (SCC) as a Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP).As part of SCC continuing successful growth delivering security products and Security as a Service (SECaaS).We now have an exciting opportunity for an 'Apprentice Security Operations Analyst' to join our Security Operations Centre (SOC) Team.Based out of our Data Centre Services site in Birmingham.This role will see the ideal candidate working with Programme/ Project/ Operations teams, including Security Architects, Solution Designers and Product Owners to provide end to end assurance of SECaaS across the SCC Corporate, Public and Commercial landscape.

What I need to do:
  • Monitor the SCC Corporate, Public and Commercial landscape for security breaches and investigate offences when they occur
  • Triage security offence log files sources and ensure they are escalated for future investigation or correct closure as false positive
  • Assist in the preparation of reports that document offences and the extent of the damage that has or may occur
  • In time and with experience, advise on incident containment measures
  • In time and with experience, contribute to digital forensic investigations, assisting with data capture and analysis
  • Collaborate with IT technical teams across the business to deliver Information Security Service improvements
  • Assist with the develop of SIEM platform process and procedures, including the development of 'Playbooks' to ensure best practice is implemented when possible
  • Maintain awareness of developing Information Technology and security risk landscape
  • Have an awareness of and develop know of standards and regulations such as GDPR, ISO27001, NIST, PCI, SOX, HTECH
  • Perform other essential Information Security duties as assigned

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

Basic knowledge of Information Technology.

This role requires the applicant to successful commit to complete a L4 Cyber Security Technologist Apprenticeship. The training will include technical training totalling 73 days over a 21 month period. Training will be modular training including online live classrooms technical training, employer training in the workplace. The successful candidate will also be required to undertake a number of examinations and deliver a project to demonstrate the skills that they have acquired.

Upon selection, the apprentice will be offered a full time role with SCC (including all the benefits that come with working for SCC) and on successful completion of the apprenticeship, the candidate will graduate to a non-apprentice role within SCC (a continued recommendation for employment from line manager required).

Personal qualities

  • Have a keen desire to work within a security monitoring environment
  • Positive personal qualities including drive, professionalism, integrity and teamwork
  • Security Clearance (SC) or be able willing to undergo the process to gain clearance

Desired qualifications

  • Minimum of GCSE, or equivalents,Grades 4 - 9 (C - A*) in maths & English / Level 2 Functional Skills or obtain Level 2 as part of apprentice scheme

Things to consider

Role will be required to work at a computer screen throughout the day and for the role holder to have an open mind, looking beyond what is in front of them when working on activities.

You will attend Solihull College (Blossomfield Campus) one day a week for the length of your apprenticeship learning.
