At least a year's experience working in an accountancy practice including bookkeeping is essential. On the job training will be given although experience using Sage, and some basic accounts preparation, would be useful.
  • Bookkeeping
  • Prepare VAT returns with training
  • Prepare small sets of accounts and non-trading accounts using firms accounts plan
  • Excel Analysis
  • Prepare simple corporation tax computations with training
  • Small sets of management accounts with training
  • Perform Audit tests with training
  • Answering the phone and emails
  • Monitoring and maintaining deadlines
  • Preparing letters and invoices from templates
  • Chasing information and payments from clients
  • General Administrative tasks eg post, filing, scanning, uploading accounts, maintaining deadlines
  • Internet research
  • Ad hoc work and support

Desired skills

  • A genuine interest in the Accounting
  • Industry Knowledge and some experience of the Accounting industry
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Confident and professional communicator, particularly on the telephone
  • Good work ethic and understanding of appropriateness in the workplace
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to listen and understand the client's needs
  • Good attention to detail
  • Mature self-starter

  • Ability to work under pressure, multitask and cope with changing priorities

Desired qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 GCSE's at Grade C/4, including C/4 in maths and English (or the equivalent) is required for this programme


Future prospects

A permanent opportunity would be available for a successful apprentice. There is the opportunity to progress onto ACCA Level 7.

Things to consider

  • During your apprenticeship you will be required to complete a workplace portfolio, participate in the classroom training and complete any employer training, all of which will count towards your 20% off the job training
  • We will assess your prior learning using your CV, an In-Depth interview and the completion of a skill scan and will adjust the apprenticeship accordingly. This will ensure you are learning new knowledge, skills and behaviours
