The Apprentice Surveyor's role would be to learn all aspects of the Approved Inspector business, assist the surveyor/ senior surveyors in their daily duties while learning as much about the construction industry as possible.

An Approved Inspectors daily duties consists of the following:
  • Reviewing drawings
  • Providing quotations for clients
  • Preparing documents to enable projects to be registered
  • Undertake plan checks
  • Consulting with relevant authorities
  • Carry out inspections under the guidance of your mentor
  • Liaising with clients to ensure all works are completed

The Apprenticewould be expected to learn from the members of the team to gain invaluable experience for their future career. Approved Inspectors deal with a wide range of projects within the construction industry. There is the prospect of progressing to the role of assistant surveyor and from there to become a fully qualified Building Control Surveyor for those who show the required ability and initiative.

Candidates would ideally have an awareness of construction, this could be in the form of experience or through college courses, etc., but this is not essential.

This position would suit individuals who is good a problem solving, are willing to study and learn whilst working with an ambition to progress in a job where every day is different.

Desired qualifications

  • For standard entry applicants, must have obtained 96 UCAS tariff points or have an equivalent level of attainment through recognised qualifications not included in the UCAS Tariff

Or,
  • Have completed an Advanced Apprenticeship in Surveying or an Advanced Apprenticeship in Construction Technical through which a Construction and Built Environment Diploma with a minimum DD profile was obtained or through which a Construction and Built Environment Extended Diploma with a minimum MMM profile was obtained, or an equivalent qualification

Or,
  • Have a current RICS Associate qualification (AssocRICS)

And,
  • Have GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and mathematics or an equivalent Level 2 qualification in English and mathematics as defined by the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) in England
  • Recognised qualifications having an equivalent level of attainment as those recognised by UCAS include: Higher National Certificate (HNC), Higher National Diploma (HND), professional qualifications from recognised institutions, certain armed forces qualifications and partially completed degrees

  • We are looking for a long-term relationship with our apprentices and we have a long-term career structure whereby we see the apprentice developing within our business as it grows
  • Upon completion of the degree you will be encouraged to apply for professional membership with an industry recognised body (CABE, RICS, CIOB) to ensure that you are able to continue your career at Shore


Things to consider

  • Driving licence desirable (consideration will be made to those with a provisional licence)
  • Regular visits to construction sites during all weather conditions throughout the year
  • It may be necessary to climb ladders and work at height when carrying out inspections throughout your career
