Responsibilities include:
  • Assisting in the preparation of reports on the development and implementation of planning policies and plans
  • Dealing with a caseload of planning applications submitted by the public and businesses
  • Investigating and preparing reports for enforcement action and advising on complaints concerning possible unauthorised development under planning and associated legislation
  • Providing advice to the public, external stakeholders and colleagues regarding planning issues
  • Developing professional relationships with internal and external customers and communicating effectively through written correspondence, telephone or in person.
  • Dealing with a range of technical paperwork/plans
  • Assisting/attending with meetings and events across the district.
  • Completing all paperwork and other associated administrative tasks to deadline and in accordance with any associated legislation
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across the service to promote continuous service improvement

Desired qualifications

  • Prior learning at degree level (Level 6) in Town Planning or a related subject achieving a minimum 2.1 degree
  • 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C (Grade 4) including maths and English

Future prospects

Successful apprentices will gain a Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) fully accredited qualification.
