Full commitment to undertaking the required training programme including the CIEH accredited BSc degree and work based functions to develop to carry out a range of proactive and reactive casework as directed by the appropriate Team Manager to:
  • Engage and demonstrate successful learning of the technical and legislative aspects of Regulatory Services & Community safety
  • Shadow and assist with site inspections carried out by Regulatory Services & Community Safety
  • Assist Regulatory Services & Community Safety Teams with a wide range of non-technical procedures
  • Actively comply, support and contribute to service standard procedures
  • Engage and develop to fully understand and operation standard ICT. Programmes in accordance with Oxford City Council policies and procedures
  • Handle sensitive data accordingly, understanding and adhering to legal requirements around policy and data confidentiality
  • Attend meetings including minute taking and distribution in line with agreed targets
  • Team Player -deliver a flexible approach across the service, supporting day to day operations as required with a willingness to develop and learn
  • Participate in project work and carry out other duties as may be required
  • Develop and contribute to making recommendations for improvements, sharing research, best practice and present solutions to be considered

Desired skills

Essential Skills:
  • Experience of using ICT, ideally Microsoft Office applications (including Word, Outlook, Excel and databases) with accurate and proficient keyboard skills
  • Experience of working as part of a team
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills demonstrating the ability to build effective working relationships across all levels internally and externally
  • Effective organisational skills demonstrating the ability to prioritise to meet deadlines and manage own workload
  • Ability to attend site inspections to domestic & commercial sites and attend surveys and meetings away from the office and in all weather conditions
  • Awareness of data protection and the importance of confidentiality when handling sensitive data

Desirable:
  • Level 2 qualification in English and maths
  • Able to demonstrate practical solutions and problem solving skills
  • To be able to demonstrate an understanding of Environmental Health
  • Experience of delivering customer service via telephone, writing or face to face
  • Evidence of further personal learning and development
  • To be able to climb ladders, work in confined spaces and capable of entering a typical domestic or commercial site environment through developing confidence to deal with varied workload


Personal qualities

Essential:
  • Flexible approach -able to support different teams and projects across the service, including working outside of normal office hours if required
  • A keen interest in undertaking further training and development


Desired qualifications

Predicted to have 3/D, equivalent or above A levels in a science or technology subject drawn from: Chemistry, Biology, Human Biology, Physics, Geography, Geology, Environmental Science, Nutrition, Food Science or similar at grade C/4 or above or equivalent BTEC qualification to be able to gain entry to an accredited BSc degree in Environmental Health(level 6 apprenticeship).

Future prospects

Upon completion of the degree apprenticeship, there will be a full time position for the right candidate.

Please note that the pay has potential to increase in year 2 and then again upon completion of the programme.
