University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust is a newly formed organisation following a merger between Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (WSHFT) and Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Trust (BSUH) on 1st April 2021. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, forward thinking Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the Neurosurgery and Major Trauma Teams at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

This involves managing a complex caseload of patients with neurosurgical conditions, including acquired brain injury and space occupying lesions (cranial and spinal). You will also form part of the specialist major trauma service, working with a patients with traumatic brain injuries (TBIs), spinal cord injuries and complex fractures. You will carry a clinical caseload across both services, working closely with the multidisciplinary teams. You will provide support to junior staff and promote a strong profile for Occupational Therapy.

You will join an established Occupational Therapy service at the hospital with opportunities for ongoing professional development. You will also be working as part of the specialist multidisciplinary team including therapists, neuropsychologists, mental health liaison services, trauma psychology, the trauma signposting service and the head injury nurse.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic OT with effective communication skills, a flexible approach and an ability to work under pressure. Acute hospital experience would be desirable.

Previous experience in the field of neurology is essential.

University Hospitals Sussex are one of the leading acute Trusts on the South Coast. The Royal Sussex County in Brighton is located just a few minutes from the sea and close to our lively town centre. The hospital is within easy access to the seaside, countryside and a frequent train service to London and Gatwick airport. We are the Major Trauma Centre and Teaching Hospital for our area.
