We are delighted to be working with a mixed use developer based in South Devon, aiding them in their search for the next member of their in-house design team. At present this consists of architectural & structural engineering disciplines but may expand in the future to include other sectors. They tend to work very closely with their construction teams that are also part of the same group of businesses

Current aspirations are to grow the internal design team to a point where all designs can be brought in-house

General job description

It is anticipated that the role will include the following duties:

- To provide support to the engineering design lead

- Initially, the role will focus on producing engineering drawings in AutoCAD (note though that it is likely that they will start using Revit for producing our design drawings)

- The role will also include production of engineering calculations, supporting the design lead as required on such tasks

- Visiting site to undertake inspections & generally to liaise with the in house construction teams

- Liaison with sub-contractors, both on & off site

- Liaison with & management of external engineering consultants

The most important requirements for the successful candidate are to have the right attitude to the job & to be able to communicate well in all forms.

They will need to be pro-active & capable of taking the initiative, be able to follow instructions, want to learn, be enthusiastic, like their job & when needed be prepared & able to 'go the extra mile'. This is a young, evolving company so the successful candidate needs to be flexible in their approach & attitude to this role.

Good engineers are good communicators so the right candidate will be able to communicate well verbally & also via their emails, drawings & calculations. They must also be able to think in 3D & understand (with support as required) how buildings 'go together'

More specific requirements are as follows:

- Fully conversant & familiar with using AutoCAD

- A willingness to learn how to use Revit (when the time comes)

- Have a structural/civil engineering qualification. Typically, this would be a degree level qualification. Alternatively, & subject to agreement with management, we may consider candidates with alternative qualifications but perhaps want to go onto undertake a Degree Apprenticeship in Structural/Civil Engineering

- Full driving licence

- Be a graduate member of the IStructE &/or ICE & to want to achieve professional qualification with either institution be that IEng or CEng

- Familiar with using, or capable of learning to use, design software including Tekla Tedds & Structural Designer

Current projects include:

- 4-5 storey buildings steel and concrete frame

- Luxury 30 unit apartment buildings

- Mixed use residential and retail structures

- Small scale bespoke residential developments

What you will get from the company

- Full & continued support from the discipline lead so you gain all of the knowledge & experience required to develop & progress in your role & on your chosen route to professional membership

- Stakeholder pension

- Annual leave 25 days/year + bank holidays
