The job will initially be of a very administrative nature, assisting our other surveyors. Whilst you will work with all the surveyors in our close, friendly, hardworking team one surveyor will be appointed as your 'mentor' and he will be responsible for ensuring that you understand and are stretched in the role.

Monitoring when you can take on more complex duties and generally that you settle in and become a contented successful member of our team.

Site visits will become an essential part of the job to measure works that are not fully ascertainable from drawings and to ensure that all works that we have carried out on site are charged for.

This will initially be with another surveyor and as soon as you are able, we will be looking to give you the financial responsibility of your own small contracts.

The main duties and tasks of a Construction Surveying Technician are:
  • Assisting senior managers with the budgeting of construction projects
  • Control of costs during a construction project
  • Selection and management of specialist contractors
  • To contribute to the mitigation of disputes using accurate records
  • Recording, control and reporting of income and expenditure on a construction project
  • Valuation of progress on construction projects
  • To assist senior managers with the legal and contractual issues on a construction project

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

A good grasp of maths and English is required to succeed in this role with an ability to articulate and demonstrate your position on measures undertaken, claims made or construction principles.

Good communication skills and works well both in a team and individually to get the best outcome possible.

Personal qualities

A person who shows an enthusiastic interest in the career.

This requires someone who is punctual, conscientious, pro-active and a good team player.

Desired qualifications

GCSEs at grades C/4 or above(or equivalent) in maths and English.
