Start Date
Produce technical drawings using AutoCAD software.

Produce 2D line drawings for drainage and highway projects using AutoCAD as directed by the Senior Engineer or Director. Drawings may include drainage layouts, general arrangement layouts, external works and private drainage layouts and construction details.
  • Use drainage design software
  • Producing hydraulic drainage models using Causeway Flow software
  • Produce drainage calculations
  • Preparing drainage calculations by hand, using a calculator or excel
  • Use 3D design software
  • Producing horizontal/vertical road and sewer alignments and creating earthworks designs using PDS software
  • Make applications and liaise with local authorities and statutory bodies
  • Make and administrate various highway and drainage applications. Liaise with local planning/highway and water authorities to gain technical approvals for various sections agreements
  • Attend site/office meetings
  • Attend site/office meetings as and when required with the Senior Engineer
  • Communicate with other team members, clients and authorities
  • Communicate internally and externally with other team members, clients, authorities and site engineers

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • As a Civil Engineer you will need to be a skilled mathematician
  • Ideally you have studied/be studying mathematics at A Level
  • You will be a logical thinker and have good problem solving skills to be able to seek the most efficient solution to a problem
  • You will be IT literate, with an ability to adapt quickly to new software applications such as AutoCAD and PDS modelling
  • You will be a team player and have good communication skills, both verbally and written in order to work effectively as part of a team and liaise with clients

  • You must be self motivated and committed equally to the projects you are working on and to your studies
  • You will have attention to detail and strive to produce the highest quality of work
  • You will be reliable and able to manage your time well and meet tight deadlines
  • You will have a willingness to go the extra mile to ensure we fulfil to client's project brief

Desired qualifications

  • Five GCSE's at grade C/4 including maths and English

  • (A Levels) 112 UCAS tariff points (e.g. 2 B's and 1 C at A2) Must include maths, 'Use of maths' is not deemed a valid substitute)

  • (BTEC) Obtaining a DMM (or equivalent) with at least a Merit in both maths and further maths. Acceptable courses are: Civil Engineering, Aerospace, Construction, and Mechanical Engineering

It is acceptable to mix and match BTECs with A-levels provided they add up to the entry requirements for A-levels.

Future prospects

Competant Civil Engineer with university degree, apprenticeship certifcate and opportunity to gain IEng status through successful completion of the End-Point Assessment.

We are based in Bromsgrove and use Coventry University as our training provider.Will you be able to get to both of these locations? (Public transport, car etc).
