The role sits within the Specialist Supervision Division, as part of the Technology, Resilience & Cyber Department (TRC). The TRC teams provide a centre of excellence within the FCA that supports the Supervision divisions and various other teams across the FCA (such as Authorisations and Innovate) with technology, cyber and operational resilience expertise.

The role of TRC is to understand firms' current and planned use of technology and cyber, identify and assess potential harm and risk to the market and promote good practice by clarifying our expectations and acting when necessary. This includes seeking to minimise the impact on consumers and the markets when risks crystallise.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Supporting risk assessments of cyber & technology resilience for the higher impact firms we supervise
  • Assessments of technology risk aspects of new firm applications or variation of permissions
  • Involvement in other aspects of the departments work including engagement with other regulators both domestic and international; thematic or multi-firm reviews on a particular topic and developing department Management Information and data analytics approaches
  • Working towards being a Cyber SME across the team and wider department
  • Learning how to manage and deal with cyber threats, hazards and risks that are needed to protect organisations, systems and people
  • Providing SME input into TRC workstreams
  • Supporting small sub-teams in one or more of assessment framework, stakeholder management, project management, communications and incident management activities
  • Contributing effectively to thematic work
  • Taking part in external stakeholder events and other similar engagement meetings on cyber and technology
  • Sharing knowledge and expertise across the department and wider FCA where necessary


Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Packages - particularly Word, Outlook, Access Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proven written language skills
  • Interest in cyber & information resilience and keen to have a career in this field

  • Some experience of organising and/or supporting meetings

Desired qualifications

Minimum of 2 A Levels or equivalent at grade C- including one in numerical subject e.g. maths, Economics, Finance. In addition to 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 including maths and English or equivalent qualifications.

Future prospects

Apprentices who successfully complete their professional qualification and apprenticeship programme will be considered for a permanent role within the FCA.
