The Role:

Are you interested in supporting children and young people with learning disabilities and Autistic Spectrum Disorder?

PALMS works across Hertfordshire providing a specialist multi-disciplinary approach, offering individually tailored support for children and young people (CYP), aged 0-18, helping families to manage challenging behaviour, toileting, feeding and sleeping concerns.

PALMS provides intervention where necessary and intensive support to families reaching crisis with a step up and step down approach throughout their care journey. Interventions include workshops, groups, individual therapy, and therapeutic work with parents/carers/siblings. PALMS clinicians comprise a 'virtual team', delivering a consistent service across Hertfordshire to CYP within the target group and in the registered population for Hertfordshire.

We currently have a long-term placement for a Band 8a Senior Clinical Psychologist - Children's Specialist at Hertfordshire Community Trust, specifically providing the following:
  • Provide highly developed specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to PALMS (Positive behaviour, Autism, Learning disability and MH Service)
  • Undertake risk assessment and risk management for relevant individual child and adolescent clients and provide advice to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management
  • Responsible for providing clinical supervision and professional support and guidance as required to psychologists within PALMS

Skills/Responsibilities:

To apply for this post, you will:
  • Chartered Clinical Psychologist status, formal training and accreditation to Doctoral level in Clinical Psychology or equivalent for those trained prior to 1996
  • Further specialist post-qualification training relevant to the CYP and/or ASD and LD client group
  • Significant experience of working with people with a learning disability and with people with an Autistic Spectrum disorder in a range of settings and/or experience of working with CYP
