**14 month Fixed Term Contract - Apprenticeship**

We welcome applications from individuals wishing to become an Apprentice and gain experience in the NHS. You will develop new skills and knowledge whilst working with an established team gaining valuable work experience and a recognised apprenticeship qualification.

You will be enrolled with a local education provider and will be required to complete your Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship Standard within the duration of the placement.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Apprentice HCA to work within our Jenny Lind Children's Outpatient department. Under the direction and supervision of trained nursing staff the post holder will participate as a member of the support services, undertaking general duties to provide an efficient and reliable service. The Jenny Lind Children's Hospital incorporates Children's Inpatient, Ambulatory and Outpatient care. We treat children and young people across a broad range of specialities including Paediatric Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT and Plastics and offer care to children living in Norfolk and for those accessing specialist treatment across the Eastern Region.

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual with a passion to learn and develop skills to become an Apprentice Health Care Assistant within our Children's Department. Subject to successfully completing the apprenticeship and doing well in the role there may be opportunity for career progression within our Jenny Lind Children's Hospital Service.

Under the direction of the Registered Nurse you will work with all members of the multi-disciplinary team, to contribute to the provision of the highest standards of care to children, young people and their families and carers with dignity, respect and compassion.

Experience of working with children or previous hospital experience would be helpful but is not essential. You will be working under the guidance of a Registered Children's Nurse. A team player is essential. There will be an expectation that the successful candidates will be required to work within other areas of the children's department to enhance your knowledge and skills further and cover the needs of the service we offer.

Eligibility Criteria:

All applicants must be:
  • Aged 16+
  • Resident in the UK/EEA for the last three years
  • Must not have a qualification at the equivalent or above level in a similar subject (there needs to be significant new learning)
  • Must NOT be in any form of formal government-funded education

Qualifications and Skills Required:
  • Good general standard of education
  • 4 GCSE's at Grade D/3 or above (or equivalent)
  • Good standard of literacy and numeracy
  • Good communication and interpersonal skill
  • Good IT skills

Full time: 37.5 hours per week. The post holder will be working 8-12 hour shifts Monday-Friday. Rosters are completed 6 weeks in advance and may incorporate a variety of shift patterns.

UK Registration: You will need to have current UK professional registration where this is a requirement of the role.
