Our apprenticeship opportunities will take you over a five-year journey and transform you from 'newbie' (or career changer?) into a qualified, experienced, construction professional, ready and able to take on responsibility. You will begin learning on the job straight away, becoming part of a supportive and integrated team on a major construction project. At the same time, you will attend London South Bank University on a day release basis to learn the theoretical and professional practice aspects of your role. At the end of your apprenticeship journey, you will be a construction graduate, with a professional membership - but without the debt! You will also have five years solid experience under your belt. If all this weren't enough, we offer a competitive 'earn while you learn' salary, all the usual benefits you would expect from a modern company, and your own personal development plan and mentor. Sound good?

Rather than 'pigeon hole' you into a set role straight away, Durkan are keen to learn a bit more about you, and then move you into the apprenticeship that best matches your individual skills and talents. However, if you are particularly keen on one or other of the roles, let us know why you think this would be a better outcome for us and you.

Quantity Surveyor - Learning all aspects of the commercial management process in construction by:
  • Attending commercial and project team meetings and briefings
  • Learning how compile accurate and economic subcontract works packages for tender
  • Supporting the commercial team to manage value and costs on a daily basis
  • Helping to build accurate and timely valuations for payment
  • Liaising with materials suppliers, subcontractors and consultants to ensure best value while maintaining quality

As this is a degree level opportunity - and we are making a considerable investment in your future - you will need to have already achieved an appropriate level of educational attainment to apply. Please refer to the entry requirements below.

As a community contractor committed to engaging the communities we work with, we are keen to appoint local candidates if possible. For this reason, preference will be given to candidates who live in the London Boroughs of Bexley, Greenwich, or the North Kent area.

To apply, please send a current CV, and more importantly a covering letter setting out why you think you would be an ideal candidate for one of the roles. If you have a strong preference for one or other of the roles, this will be your chance to explain why. Briefly expand on any previous work experience that you feel demonstrates existing construction or transferable skills, and above all communicate to us your energy and enthusiasm.
