About the apprenticeship


Duties will include learning how to perform mechanical repairs and operating machinery in line with SOPs. Lathes, mills, saws, involvement with CAD and CAM techniques. May require site work depending on needs of the business. Other duties will be undertaken and allocated as appropriate e.g. maintaining a clean and tidy work area in line with health & safety working practices.

Before applying for this position please ensure you are able to travel to and from the place of employment in Merthyr and to the XR Training Centre in Pyle once a week. You will be employed full-time as an Apprentice Mechanical Engineer by this company based in Merthyr. You will be enrolled onto a level 2 foundation apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering, and undertake the following qualifications:
- NVQ Diploma in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering
- VRQ Diploma in Engineering Technology
- Essential Skills in Application of Number, Communication and Digital Literacy level 1



Candidates must be punctual.
Candidates must be reliable and trustworthy.
Candidates must be flexible with hours worked.
Must be able to work with others as a part of a team.
Must be able to follow instructions and ask for guidance when necessary.
Candidates should be enthusiastic and committed to both the job and the training.
Prior experience (as a hobby or formal training) of engineering desirable but not essential.
Candidates must hold a GCSE in Maths at grade C or above, as a minimum. Physics qualifications desirable.
Ability to drive is desirable but not essential, as long as candidate is prepared to travel back and forth to the XR Training Centre in Pyle and the place of employment.
Must recognise the importance of attending XR Training once a week in order to achieve qualifications in a timely manner.


GCSEs in Maths and English at grades C or above.
