On 1st February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals became part of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust - a truly once-in a generation development. Together, we are taking our first steps towards our vision of creating a brand-new centre of excellence, which will be the global leader in the research into and treatment of heart and lung disease in patients from pre-birth to old age. We are developing some exciting plans and we want you to join us - so come and help to change the shape of healthcare for our heart and lung patients world-wide.

Due to our everchanging and evolving critical care service we have several band 6 vacancies.

We are currently one of the UKs largest and most experienced cardio-thoracic centres providing care for a variety of complex patients. Since March we have been one of the highest performing cardiac centres in the UK providing urgent/emergency surgery whilst continuing with the transplant programme.

We care for a variety of patients following complex cardiothoracic procedures including coronary revascularization, valve surgery, primary angioplasty, heart transplantation, lung transplantation, and insertion of Ventricular Assist Devices.

Nurses on our unit acquire specialist skills in the management of patients requiring interventions such as advanced modes of ventilation, IABP, CVVHDF, nitric oxide, ECMO and cardiac pacing.

Our mentorship programme, supported by our Practice Education Team, aims to provide all new staff with the essential knowledge and skills required to settle into this busy, friendly unit.

As a highly motivated Band 6 nurse you will have an excellent opportunity to develop yourself further in mentoring/supporting colleagues, contributing to key projects, shift management, performing staff appraisals and acting as 'Bay Leader'. You will be expected to follow the Band 6 Development Plan.

Applicants must be able to present evidence of advanced critical care skill development, successful teaching / mentoring contributions, and significant contributions to departmental projects.

You will have successfully completed a relevant post basic course (e.g. ITU Course) and preferably have completed a degree in nursing.
