At Somerset NHS Foundation Trust we are seeking individuals who want to contribute to our vision of providing patient centered and compassionate nursing care. We are interested in hearing from people who can make a difference with their positive outlook, dedication, courage and compassion.

We are looking to recruit highly motivated individuals to work on our Trust's progressive, adult general Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). It is a 10 bed mixed gender ward and offers a unique clinical environment and experience.

The successful candidate must be confident, approachable, and sensitive to the issues faced by people who are in the most acute and challenging phase of their journey towards recovery.

You will be an effective team player, a good communicator, self-motivating and committed to delivering high quality standards of care and support. You will enjoy talking and listening to people, have the patience to spend time sharing solutions and assisting patients with daily needs. You will also be comfortable with supporting individuals in sometimes unusual, challenging and emotional life circumstances.

This post includes working on an as required basis in an activity support worker role under the supervision of a qualified Occupational Therapist. This will involve working in our dedicated activity space and our gymnasium: sharing time with patients; being involved as a support worker in the delivery of a ward therapeutic schedule; aiding the delivery of therapeutic groups and offering time in positive activity.

Our PICU ward provides a specifically designed, modern, bright and comfortable environment for individuals admitted to our service as well as offering our staff a better working environment. We are a member of the National Association of Psychiatric Intensive Care Units (NAPICU).

We are based at the Wellsprings Hospital Site in Taunton, and we share the building with two 15 bed adult psychiatric admission wards, an ECTAS accredited ECT service on site, and a dedicated health based place of safety. We believe that this service structure and scale provides the successful candidates with a range of excellent clinical development opportunities.

We will provide a full induction on recruitment. You will have training and development opportunities including the opportunity to study for a nurse apprenticeship.
