This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced, dynamic and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join our Community Specialist Palliative Therapy Team. The post holder will be employed as a Senior Therapist working collaboratively in an integrated team with Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, nursing, psychologist and consultant.

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in the country, close to the North Yorkshire Moors and within easy reach of Newcastle and Leeds. It comprises two acute hospitals, James Cook University Hospital and Friarage Hospital Northallerton and a number of community hospitals and community services. Therapy services at South Tees NHS trust are also part of the wider Integrated OT service. This is a unique partnership between Health and Social care in South Tees with a commitment to working together, improving the quality of our services and getting rid of existing barriers between health and social services.

The post holder will be expected to have experience in the occupational therapy assessment and management of palliative patients and have gained experience across a variety of specialties. Driving or having access to transport is also an essential part of this post as you will work across Middleborough, Redcar & Cleveland community providing a service within patients own homes. You will also work closely with the acute palliative Therapy team based at James Cook University Hospital as well as community therapists and Teesside Hospice to provide a seamless pathway for the palliative patient journey.

This post offers development in clinical and leadership skills and the post holder will be supported to attend relevant post graduate courses. We have an established an comprehensive training programme and our staff are encouraged and supported in their CPD through workshops, clinical supervision and the appraisal process. There is also an expectation to actively participate in audit and research and the Hospital has close links with both the University of Teesside and Durham University.

Leadership and Improvement Training

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers leadership and improvement training to all new staff to the Trust; this training programme has been designed to support our leaders in developing their understanding of leadership and management skills. You will be expected to attend the leadership development programme, and the Quality Improvement Programme that the Trust delivers. This programme aims to
  • Explore leadership within the NHS;
  • Promote Trust Values and Behaviours;
  • Develop your Leadership effectiveness and skills;
  • Practitioner level in quality improvement, equipping you with the skills to champion, lead and complete quality improvement within your role.

After you complete this four and a half days of training you will be able to explore further leadership and improvement training opportunities, we offer further in-house courses dependent upon your role and bitesize programmes and leadership apprenticeships at level 3,5 and 7.
