As part of the Staffordshire Digital Innovation Partnerships project, Staffordshire University has entered into a partnership with Synetica, one of the UK's leading specialists in energy and environmental data solutions based in Staffordshire. Synetica are recruiting a graduate/undergraduate to take on a 24-week project. The project will support the continued development of an innovative product range, using internet of things (IoT) principles and, specifically, LoRaWAN wireless devices, to monitor Energy and Environmental behaviour. You will be working collaboratively with a software specialist to research and develop a cloud-based data import, device management and integration platform. Your project will focus on the development of the software and data flow through the network infrastructure.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone to join an exciting business embarking on a highly innovative project. Supported by University experts, you will research, analyse, plan and implement a solution that will form a key component of the company's commercial product range.

Duties and responsibilities

* Work with internal stakeholders to research available software technologies and create a requirements document

* Work with product engineers to adapt existing data interfaces Design and create a scalable cloud-based application, based on an existing platform, to manage data from remote devices. Including : Network infrastructure, Back-end infrastructure , Database development , Data structure design and implementation, Device management e.g. backup, replacement, "Digital Twin"

* Integration and scalability testing

* Customer/staff training and support

* Design interfaces for data integration to 3rd party applications

Skills and experience

* IT/Computing undergraduate or graduate - computer science background is preferable

* Software engineering skills are essential, preferably with experience of cloud-based data applications, such as AWS.

* Experience of HTML, CSS, JS (ECMAScript) and Angular will be an advantage, as will knowledge of React or VueIdeally the candidate will have experience of SQL and data exchange protocols, such as MQTT, JSON

* Understanding of IoT and data exchange/integration topologies.

* Experience of LoRaWAN would be advantageous

* Strong communication skills, being able to work as part of a team and as an individual

* Energy and enthusiasm

* Good organisational skills and focused, problem-solving ability

* Prepared to fully participate in the commitment of the company to achieving the goals of the project

* Interest in and passion for new technologies and, in particular, developing cloud/server-based applications

* Approachable with a positive attitude and willingness to seek help when required

Additional information

This position is offered on a full time, fixed term contract for 6 months (24 weeks/900 hours)

Hours and Days: Mon-Fri, 9am - 5pm

The role is offered through UniTemps and offered on an hourly rate of GBP9.34 plus a holiday enhancement of GBP1.12 per hour. Expected Start Date: August 2021 (subject to agreement)

Dress Code: Smart Casual
