Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Oncology (Palliative Radiotherapy)

37.5 hours per week (Permanent)

Band 7 (progressing to 8a on completion of training).

Applications are invited from therapy radiographers who would like to develop their career in a forward thinking, award winning and technically advanced radiotherapy department at The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.

This is an exciting opportunity to train as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Palliative Radiotherapy. The role will develop to deliver independent clinical assessment and treatment of patients diagnosed with bone and cerebral metastases, monitoring their palliative radiotherapy treatment, assessing and treating complications of that treatment and also the cancer itself.

Our focus is to continually improve patients' experiences and outcomes and you will be supported by a friendly, committed multi-disciplinary team of staff striving to ensure the delivery of excellence in all aspects of patient care.

The department is currently equipped with 5 Elekta Agility machines with IGRT/IMRT capability, which provides scope for our expanding technological and professional development including DIBH with SGRT, stereoscopic 2D imaging, stereotactic body radiotherapy, VMAT treatment delivery and flattening filter free technology. Pre-treatment imaging consists of Siemens and Toshiba wide bore CT scanners with associated ProSoma virtual simulation software. We have an active brachytherapy service, treating a variety of sites using our Nucletron remote after-loading brachytherapy unit.

Treatment plans are produced using Monaco and Raystation. Mosaiq is currently used for electronic data transfer throughout the radiotherapy department.

We are a forward thinking department and support radiographers in their clinical development to advanced practitioner level and we have recently appointed our first Consultant Radiographer.

Applicants will be expected to have three years post registration experience and will be expected to enrol on an appropriate MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice (degree apprenticeship) or hold an equivalent at MSc level.

Successful applicants will be highly motivated and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

For further information about the role or to arrange an informal visit please contact Claire Huntley; Radiotherapy Clinical Lead on 01642854942 or e-mail Claire.huntley1@nhs.net.
