About the apprenticeship


• Restoring telephone system
• Open mail, date stamp and distribute it to doctors /Data clerk concerned
• Making appointments on computer. Mark patients on the computer as they arrive and send them to appropriate doctor/nurse waiting area
• Repeat prescriptions on computer and enquire with doctor any queries regarding prescriptions (acute/repeats). Accuracy must be maintained.
• Make appointments for new patients with HCSW and GP (if on medication).
• Enter new patients details onto computer
• Filing and extracting notes/letters/results etc
• Receive requests for home visits/telephone advice - ensuring they are entered on computer
• Take specimens from patients and put them into specimen box by 11.30am
• Accepting requests from patients regarding results of tests/investigations etc
• Receive and record all telephone messages if required
• Photocopying
• Prepare forms or notes for B.S.C
• Enter data onto computer, all registrations/temp patients
• Complete contact tray daily
• Scan letters
• Ensure all message which are not solved, are passed on to the person concerned
• Take results over the phone from the hospitals and record in message book
• Undertake typing of referrals/letters etc
• To arrange medical examinations/private appointments/DNA Testing
• Handling money

Additional information

Daily duties also include...
• To maintain files, ensuring they are kept tidy and renew folder when required
• Take patients details for insurance forms and take payment when form is completed
• Change name/address on notes and computer, after patients has filled in CHANGE OF NAME/ADDRESS form
• Ensure all windows/doors are locked before departure, all electrical equipment is turned off
• Any other duties which may be required and have been agreed with the partnership
