The Cygnet Occupational Therapy Department recognise not all Occupational Therapists qualifying at present may have had the direct experience due to the national placement crisis. We offer a graded approach to caseload management, have robust supervision support and have our own preceptorship process for all newly qualified OTs to consolidate core skills.

Cygnet Wyke is a 55 bed mental health inpatient service for men. The service is split across 3 wards; acute ward, specialist autism spectrum disorder service and a Psychiatrist Intensive Care Unit-PICU. We are currently recruiting for an Occupational Therapist to join the team on Bennu ward at Cygnet Wyke.

Bennu Ward is a 12 bed male PICU that accepts emergency and crisis admissions. The aim of Bennu Ward is to provide short, rapid intervention to help service users regain a sense of control and order in their lives, so they can move to a less restrictive care setting or return home.

Care is delivered by a well-established multi-disciplinary team comprising of a Consultant Psychiatrist, a Specialty Doctor, Nurses, Occupational Therapist, Activity Co-ordinators, Psychologist and Assistant Psychologist. The hospital has extensive grounds, social space and a five-star catering team. There are also leisure facilities on site including an exercise & fitness room, art room, horticulture area, IT classroom and learning kitchen.

In your role as an Occupational Therapist you will work collaboratively with service users to provide occupation focused assessment, intervention and evaluation of functioning, provide structured routine, using occupation to improve health and wellbeing, work with the service users, carers and the MDT to manage and reduce risk and provide a safe and therapeutic environment.

Post:(Band 5) Occupational Therapist

Base:Bennu ward-Cygnet Wyke

Caseload: 12 patients, with 2 full time activity co-ordinators.

Responsible for:Contributing to the maintenance and development of the Occupational Therapy department at Cygnet Wyke. Providing assessment and treatment of occupational needs, under the supervision of a senior OT. Promoting the importance of enabling people to do the things they want, need or are expected to do to support them being well in life.

Responsible to:Occupational Therapist (Band 7) -clinical supervisor, Director of Occupational Therapy and Hospital Manager.

Hours:40 hours

Location:Bennu ward, Cygnet Wyke, Blankney Grange, Huddersfield Road, Wyke, Bradford, BD12 8LR.

  • The Successful Candidate should be/have:
    • A registered Occupational Therapist with the HCPC (Health Care Professions Council)
    • Experienced in the field of mental health desired
    • An understanding of Occupational Therapy process/interventions and can take a "hands on" approach
    • Excellent communication and time management skills
    • Passionate about student education

    Requirements
    The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS and reference check and an offer of employment will be subject to successful clearance.
