About the apprenticeship

Duties

The Engineering Apprentice is to work towards providing a reliable and efficient mainte-nance service to the production departments to help drive Quality standards, through im-proved machinery Reliability and Maintenance.
The role expectation will be one that demonstrates a very practical, customer focused approach. A flexible attitude to working time, and the ability to be a Great Team member are key to the role.

• Ability to build rapport and trust-based relationships and interact effectively with staff.

Health and Safety
Responsible for ensuring the safety culture and minimisation of environmental impact in all work and associated activities.
This includes:
• Following site rules, with keen focus on Machinery safety, not limited to LOTO, Risk As-sessment and Safe Working Practices
Engineering
• Focus on keeping Production equipment at a Good Basic Condition, with Planned Preven-tative Maintenance and associated Continuous Improvement Activities
• Work with both reactive and proactive maintenance measures, to ensure that the prod-ucts are manufactured in a safe and clean working environment in line with UKWDG standards and measures
• Contribute to a safe working culture by ensuring total compliance with the legal re-quirements and safety standards, set out in the health & safety policy, in relation to ma-chinery.
• Deliver a service that ensures customer satisfaction.
• Comply with Planned Preventative Maintenance schedules, spares, and technical files for all equipment.
Conduct
• Has the ability to learn new skills and commit to any training prescribed by UKWDG.
• Act in an honest, responsible and respectful manner, be responsible for own professional conduct.
Lead by example and promote UKWDG goals, vision and values.

Qualifications

GCSEs - Maths, English, Science - A-C
NVQ 2 in relevant discipline

Who can apply?

To be eligible to apply you:

  • will be at least 16 years of age at the time of making your application
  • will not be in full-time education (you can apply while still attending school/college/university but will have finished or intend to finish your studies by the time your apprenticeship starts)
  • will need to meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements to apply.

ALS eligibility

Please note that ALS our training providers have their own eligibility in order to provide the funding required to undertake an apprenticeship. You may not be eligible to apply if:

  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in ICT, Software, Web and Telecoms or a similar subject
  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in Business Administration, Customer Service or a similar subject

What are the benefits?  

How much will I be paid?

You will earn £19,240 a year while training. When you pass your apprenticeship you can apply for a permanent job at the Welsh Government. Within 2 years of starting your apprenticeship you could be earning £22,500. 

You will get 31 days holidays as well as 10 public and privilege days. We offer flexible working arrangements to help you get the right work/life balance. You will also be eligible for membership of the Civil Service Pension Scheme
