JobPurpose:

To provide outstanding support to enable students with additional needs including those with SEN to play a full and active part in the life of the school and to make outstanding progress in their learning.

KeyResponsibilities andAccountabilities

Support for Pupils:
  • Be a positive role model, creating a positive and fun environment in which to motivate and encourage children to participate in sport and physical activity.
  • Prepare and implement well-structured and progressive coaching programmes.
  • Take positive steps to identify and overcome barriers to participation amongst children, prioritising access, inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
  • Where appropriate adapt or modify materials and resources to ensure full access to a broad and balanced curriculum.
  • Support student access to the curriculum by differentiating learning activities where appropriate.
  • Develop positive relationships with students to support progress and attainment and promote self-esteem and independence.
  • Deliver intervention and support strategies for specific students as directed by the teacher.
  • Support the use of ICT in learning activities where appropriate.
  • Organise and lead on breakfast and after school sports club.
  • Organise inter-school and intra-school sporting competitions for children.
  • Attend to the pupils' personal needs, and implement related personal programmes, including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid and welfare matters.
  • Supervise and support pupils to ensure their safety.
  • Encourage pupils to interact with others to promote high levels of physical activities.
  • Encourage pupils to act independently as appropriate.

Support for Teachers:
  • Provide information and support to teachers and other support staff as to the most effective methods of support for pupils with learning needs
  • Support the PE coordinator with the administrative tasks involved in school and competition events
  • Assist in student supervision and management of student behaviour, in line with school procedures
  • Keep and update records as agreed with the teacher
  • Support the teacher by contributing to the delivery of local and national learning strategies and recording achievement, progress and providing feedback to the teacher
  • Provide feedback to the teacher regarding student achievement
  • Administer and contribute to the invigilation of examinations as required
  • Deliver coaching in a range of physical activities alongside teachers within the Academy's PE curriculum and to have a focus on out of school hours learning
  • Make and maintain contacts with outside sporting bodies to ensure signposting opportunities are made available to specific groups or individuals

Support for the School:
  • Support the maintenance and enhancement of the school's ethos and mission through their own outstanding professional conduct and high expectations of others
  • Carry out duties in accordance with the Academy's PE and other policies, including equal opportunities, child protection, health and safety at work
  • Be aware of and comply with policies relating to safeguarding (including child protection), health and safety, confidentiality and data protection
  • Assist in providing an atmosphere in which effective learning can take place
  • Support the promotion of positive relationships with parents and outside agencies
  • Work within school policies and procedures
  • Attend and participate in individual and team meetings as required
  • Undertake personal development and improve own practice through training, observation, evaluation and discussion with colleagues including performance management
  • Where required accompany teaching staff and students on visits, trips, out of school activities and enrichment programmes
  • Assist with the supervision of students out of lesson time including before school, during breaks and lunchtime and after school
  • Work as part of a team and support the role of other people in the team

Desired qualifications

  • 5 GSCE's, or equivalents,(Grade A*-C or 9-4) including English or maths


Future prospects

  • The right candidate may be employed permanently at the end of the apprenticeship
