The role

We are seeking two Band 3 Health Care Assistant for our brand new Mother & Baby Unit (MBU); this is an exciting opportunity to join the Jasmine Lodge 8 bedded MBU based in Exeter.

We will provide on-going managerial supervision, learning & development opportunities which will increase your skills & experience in the field of perinatal mental health. We are an aspirational service & actively encourage innovation, joining the Mother & Baby Unit at the beginning will be a once in a lifetime chance to really drive for a service of excellence with women, babies & families at the centre of all we do.

Your day to day role will include providing emotional and practical support to mothers in distress and supporting mothers to problem solve. You will be expected to provide practical and physical care to babies including changing nappies, bathing, and feeding, therefore prior experience of this is desirable.

You will be expected to accompany mothers & babies on leave from the hospital, for local walks or home leave, and you will be expected to support in group therapeutic activities.

Your job also includes general housekeeping tasks such as maintaining general cleanliness and tidiness of the ward environment, ordering of meals, ordering of supplies and stock.

As a support worker you will follow the mothers and babies personalised care plans that are person centred and developed in conjunction with the mothers.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate that they have the ability to manage conflict in a calm and professional manor.

£19,737 - £21,142 per annum pro rata (Band 3)

About you

Prior experience of working within inpatient mental health services is desirable.

You will be expected to follow infection control precautions, this means you should come to work "bare below the elbows" including rings watches and nail varnish. Due to covid19 you will be required to wear a surgical face mask and eye protection for the duration of your shift. You may also be involved in nursing someone with covid19.

If you do not hold a QCF/NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care, an equivalent qualification, or the Care Certificate - you will need to complete the Care Certificate within 3 months of commencement of the Band 3 post.

If you have a minimum of 6 months experience in the last 2 years working in a care role, but do not hold the Care Certificate you can complete the form "Care Certificate Evidence Document" from the additional documentation list to evidence that this experience is equivalent to the 15 standards as set out within the Care Certificate. You will need to take this completed form to interview where it will be reviewed by the appointing manager and if you meet the criteria, the manager can approve this in place of completing the Care Certificate.

We will also offer entry onto our Apprenticeship programme to initially undertake the Level 3 in Health & Social Care, this open to applications every 6 months. Jasmine Lodge is an 8 bedded acute mental health inpatient ward. We offer admission to women who are experiencing moderate to severe mental health difficulties, admission is conjoint admission with their baby to avoid separation.

Jasmine Lodge aims to provide a place for mothers and their baby to feel safe, hopeful empowered and included at a time of acute distress. We endeavour to engage with wider support networks and to promote a nurturing relationship between mothers and their babies.
