The RNDA programme runs over 4 years and uses a work based 'blended' learning approach to enable healthcare support workers to develop and progress to achieve a nursing degree. As with other NMC approved pre-registration nursing degrees, apprentices undertake a minimum of 2,300 hours of theoretical and 2,300 hours of practice learning over the course of the programme.

The 4-year course is made up of periods of practice learner, employment and theory hours, this is divided into 3 Stages of 69 weeks.When in practice nursing apprentices will be supported throughout the programme by Practice Supervisors and Practice Assessor.When in theory you will be supported by experienced Academics and Clinical Teaching Fellows will have access to a diverse range of contemporary online learning and formative assessment resources.

The role of the Healthcare Support Worker is to assist and support the qualified health professionals in ensuring optimal care for our patients. The delivery of high quality, effective and compassionate health care to the patients of the Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust is the most important objective for the organisation.

To support the qualified practitioners in the delivery of a seven day, twenty-four hour service, this includes:
  • Providing effective evidence based care for patients referred to the service under the direct supervision of qualified practitioners
  • To assist in the provision of individualised clinical care for a defined group of patients, under the supervision of the qualified nurse and others in the Health Care Professional Team
  • To ensure patient safety is maintained and patient experience is positive by treating all patients, relatives and colleagues with respect, dignity, compassion and courtesy in accordance with Trust values
  • To complete the Band 2 competency framework within the identified time scale
  • Following the successful completion of the competency framework the Healthcare Support Worker will ensure that they act within their sphere of competence at all times and be confident and accountable for their actions
  • Analytical and Judgemental skills
  • Prioritises own workload following informed choices on both clinical and non-clinical, regularly reporting back to line manager

Desired qualifications

  • Literacy & Numeracy Functional Skills level 2 or equivalent - if shortlisted for interview applicants are required to sit a baseline English and maths test to establish any additional support required if the applicant is offered a place.
  • A level 3 qualification or Apprenticeship level 3. 2 'A' levels (grade C or above) is equivalent to a level 3 qualification. (https://www.gov.uk/what-different-qualification-levels-mean/list-of-qualification-levels).
  • If you have successfully completed a Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care, or equivalent, any credit transfer is in accordance with the university's procedures.
  • For students who are non-native users of English:

Provide evidence of instruction and assessment predominantly in English throughout education

OR

Provide evidence of a recent IELTS or equivalent score of 7.0 overall, with a minimum of 7.0 for each component.
