Digital Health and Care Wales is an ambitious organisation created by Welsh Government to lead on the digital transformation of health and care. It builds on the digital architecture and national services put in place by the NHS Wales Informatics Service over the past decade.

The organisation will lead on large-scale developments that make a significant difference to the people of Wales as well as to health and care professionals, such as expansion of the digital patient record and the creation of a National Data Resource. It will improve the way data is collected, shared and used. Please check your email account regularly. WelshPAS is the Patient Administration System for Wales. We provide software services to the NHS in Wales for the management of Patient Referrals, Out Patient Attendances, Clinics and Admissions as well as providing support for Maternity services and Pathway management including Cancer tracking systems. Our systems process over 4 million transactions every day and help make sure that the Patient gets to the right hospital for the right treatment each time, every time.

We are looking for talented, enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our Software Applications team supporting this major National software application that forms the backbone of the NHS in Wales

Software Developer

This is a great career progression opportunity for those starting out on their professional developer journey or those that are coming back to development after a period away.

As a member of an agile development team you'll help build some of our national software applications. This could mean writing user interfaces, developing enterprise databases or hooking up software to different APIs, messaging frameworks and other clinical systems.

Our approach to learning is by doing and from day one your focus will be on helping us deliver software to users. We'll provide you with the opportunities to ask for help and guidance but expect you to have the enthusiasm, drive and aptitude to also develop your skills independently and become an effective team member.

Working as part of a well-structured Scrum teams, under the guidance of experienced team leads, you shall take responsibility for delivering individual software components. You shall have the opportunity to get involved in all aspects of the development stack.

We use Delphi as our primary development tool. Using the latest Delphi developer tools you'll be at the centre of a national programme of work to introduce ever more sophisticated IT systems to improve patient care. As part of a wider development team you will have the opportunity to develop and broaden your skills, whilst learning from senior developers the principles of good software design.

Experience in the following areas is considered essential:-
  • Application development using an object oriented language (such as Delphi or C#)
  • Some exposure to database development using an RDBMS (such as Firebird RDBMS or Microsoft SQL Server)

Proven experience using agile development methodologies, such as Scrum, is advantageous but not essential.

Principally, we are looking for enthusiastic people who work well in a team committed to delivering new functionality to help Clinicians and business users solve real world problems.

Note: Depending on experience we may offer the post as a Band 4 Software Development Officer. If appointed as a Software Development Officer, progression to the next pay band is dependent on meeting an agreed set of competency criteria managed through Personal Development Review (PDR). Once those criteria are met you will automatically progress to Band 5
