About the Team

The Minerals and Waste Management team comprises of 9 people (inclusive of this role), based across Leeds and London. The Leeds office is headed up by 2 Partners with an Associate, Surveyor, Assistant Surveyor and Rating Administrator.The London Team comprises of 1 Partner and 2 Surveyors.

Job Description

Gerald Eve is only one of a handful of firms with a dedicated team of specialists operating in this sector. This role has a focus towards specialist rating, however the team do also provide a range of advice which includes lease consultancy, transactional work, valuation, landlord and tenant and compensation and compulsory purchase. The team are seeking a candidate with existing rating knowledge and experience, ideally with an understanding of all methods of valuation including cost based and R&E approaches. This provides an exciting opportunity to secure a new role which covers a wide geographical spread in the southern half of the country dealing with a range of interesting property types both big and small. There may be the opportunity to expand into dealing with other property matters.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Inspecting properties and preparing inspection notes
  • Researching relevant comparable evidence
  • Preparing rating valuations
  • Preparing CCA submissions and Appeals
  • Preparing client reports
  • Assisting in the preparation of evidence for tribunal hearings and third party referrals

Working with cross departmental teams servicing national portfolios.

Desired qualifications

For standard entry applicants, must have obtained 96 UCAS tariff points (2017 Tariff) or 230 UCAS tariff points (2016 Tariff) or have an equivalent level of attainment through recognised qualifications not included in the UCAS Tariff

Or,

Have completed an Advanced Apprenticeship in Surveying or an Advanced Apprenticeship in Construction Technical through which a Construction and Built Environment Diploma with a minimum DD profile was obtained or through which a Construction and Built Environment Extended Diploma with a minimum MMM profile was obtained, or an equivalent qualification

Or,

Have a current RICS Associate qualification (AssocRICS)

And,

Have GCSE Grade C or above in English and Mathematics (Grade 4 for applicants holding newly reformed GCSEs in England) or an equivalent Level 2 qualification in English and Mathematics as defined by the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) in England.

*Recognised qualifications having an equivalent level of attainment as those recognised by UCAS include: Higher National Certificate (HNC), Higher National Diploma (HND), professional qualifications from recognised institutions, certain armed forces qualifications and partially completed degrees.

Future prospects

Our Apprentices receive a permanent contract from day one. It is our hope that the individual would stay on with Gerald Eve long-term, post-qualification. It is a growing team, both withing London and Leeds, so we see a great deal of opportunity for the successful candidate.

Things to consider

There is a lot of travel, including to mining sites, quarries, etc. There will also be office based days so it's a good mixture of having a role where you get out and about on site for the day, then returning for desk based duties.

Driving licence preferable.

The Firm's core hours are from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. and you may choose to start and end your day around these hours, provided you still do your 7.25 hours per day (e.g. 8.00 am - 4.30pm, 10.00 am - 6.30 pm). There is no requirement for this to be the same each day, but you are required to keep your manager informed.This position also involves out of hours working on an 'as necessary' basis. We are open to considering flexible working arrangements for everyone; this can be discussed during the application process or upon commencement.
