Salary range: AFC Band 5 - 7 (dependent on experience and qualifications)

We are ideally seeking an enthusiastic and proficient adult Echocardiographer, however we are willing to consider recruiting either a cardiac physiologist or a suitable post graduate student who has a keen interest and ambition to train and work as an Echocardiographer, full time.

This post has been designed to provide specialist full time training within an echocardiography department to support the staff member through local and BSE Transthoracic Echocardiography standards and accreditation.

Dependant on experience and on completion of set competency framework you will progress through the differing pay bands from Band 5 - Band 7. This would be expected to take between 18-24 months. If after this time you have not completed all of the expected competencies and have not obtained full BSE TTE accreditation your employment maybe affected.

The service may require you to work at both the Trusts sites. If the successful candidate has knowledge and experience in other areas of Cardiac investigation and Cath lab these will be maintained within this role

The Echocardiography Unit is a large busy department split across 2 sites, The James Cook University Hospital and the Friarage Hospital. In addition we work in a number of community clinics.

The department offers a range of imaging procedures: Transthoracic, TOE, DSE, exercise echocardiography, contrast echo, CRT optimisation, physiologist lead valve clinics as well as echo support to research trials and open access echocardiography working along specialist imaging consultants.

The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough is a large tertiary referral centre for cardiothoracic services. There are 17 Cardiologists (2 based within the Cardiology Unit at the Friarage) 7 Surgeons, 35 Cardiac Physiologists and 20 support staff across two sites providing an efficient and high quality service to patients. We currently have (7) dedicated echo rooms within the Trust, 2 of which are designed to perform stress and exercise echocardiography.

The departments on both sites are equipped with state-of-the-art technology which allows us to take both secondary and tertiary referrals. Additional services provided by the units include cardiac rhythm management device follow up along with a full range of non-invasive cardiology diagnostics including ECGs, ambulatory ECG, BP and extended ECG monitoring, exercise tolerance tests and rapid access chest pain clinic.
