Duties will include:
  • To work positively as part of a dedicated Viral Clearance team following processes in the execution of daily tasks adhering to good laboratory practice including cGMP where applicable
  • To complete tasks to a high-quality standard as directed by the allocated senior scientist
  • To perform sample receipt and storage. Supports transfer of materials to shipping department
  • To prepare reagents and buffers via written process documentation prepared in collaboration with internal team members.
  • To follow that all data is accurately recorded
  • To support the lab areas through inventory management of consumable and raw materials and ensuring correct standards of cleanliness and maintenance of equipment in lab areas
  • To demonstrate flexibility to support other activities within the team

  • Applies experience and common sense working to team activities assigned with a good understanding or safety requirements within a laboratory environment
  • Proficient with standard software
  • Good interpersonal skills with ability to work within a functional team. Able to effectively communicate through verbal and written communication across the team
  • Has good attention to detail, self-motivated with a positive attitude and a desire to develop and learn technically
  • Developing an understanding of how the assigned duties contribute to the work of the team

Desired qualifications

  • 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) grade A*-C (4-9)Including maths, English and Science
  • You must have gained a minimum of 80 UCAS points from a minimum of 2 A-level subjects including either Chemistry or Biology (or equivalent, e.g. BTEC) and an additional Science or maths


Future prospects

  • Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship you will be eligible to apply for other positions within the business
  • The training will expose the apprentice to a wide range of skills and competencies which would make them well placed for further study or suitable for many job opportunities in the life sciences sector


Things to consider

  • Please ensure that you currently live within or can relocate to a commutable distance of the site
  • The individual will be working within a laboratory environment and must therefore adhere to site dress code procedures and personal hygiene standards during testing activities (e.g. correct use of PPE such as laboratory coats and glasses; and removal of all jewellery and make-up upon entry into controlled clean room areas)
  • The individual will be required to handle hazardous materials (e.g. chemicals, microorganisms) and so must adhere to the relevant procedures
  • The work pattern involves day and shift working dependent upon the needs of the business
