About the apprenticeship


You will join us in an initial induction period assisting in the gym before taking a position in a leading level 2 role (tumble and vault) coach to provide maternity cover.
Your role will be to plan and lead two 90 minutes classes per evening session. This will include a warmup and conditioning/ target keyskill session to whole group and then split with another coach for target apparatus work.
Opening the gym carrying out open checks. Daily cleaning duties prior to opening and during session Attend meetings and communicate effectively with other members of the team. Attending training as required.

For the right candidate there may be an opportunity to extend the role and a more permanent position.

RDGC is unique in the North Area for its specialism in Team Gym and Coaches at RDGC have access to a network of British Team Gym Coaches as well as RDGC Professional Development Academy / Resource Library for those new to Team Gym.

We are looking for that enthusiastic professional player committed in their position to prepare in advance innovative and fun lessons for all levels and ages that they teach every week.

Self motivation - Essential to any RDGC coaching post whether a volunteer or paid is the passion and motivation to bring the best out of every child you teach.
Commitment to their personal and Technical ability advancement - in the first instance will depend on the experience and time you have given to your coaching both in and out of the gym. Building on this in reflective practice and technical research, is an essential commitment to continue your continued professional development in post and adopting practices effectively to share with others in your team.

Who can apply?

To be eligible to apply you:

  • will be at least 16 years of age at the time of making your application
  • will not be in full-time education (you can apply while still attending school/college/university but will have finished or intend to finish your studies by the time your apprenticeship starts)
  • will need to meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements to apply.

ALS eligibility

Please note that ALS our training providers have their own eligibility in order to provide the funding required to undertake an apprenticeship. You may not be eligible to apply if:

  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in ICT, Software, Web and Telecoms or a similar subject
  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in Business Administration, Customer Service or a similar subject

What are the benefits?  

How much will I be paid?

You will earn £19,240 a year while training. When you pass your apprenticeship you can apply for a permanent job at the Welsh Government. Within 2 years of starting your apprenticeship you could be earning £22,500. 

You will get 31 days holidays as well as 10 public and privilege days. We offer flexible working arrangements to help you get the right work/life balance. You will also be eligible for membership of the Civil Service Pension Scheme
