At University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, we really value our Healthcare Support Workers who play an essential role in supporting the delivery of the highest standard of quality care to our patients.

University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust is committed to offering excellent care through our tailored apprenticeship Pathways. If you are interested in a career as a Healthcare Support Worker, we can offer you a fixed term Apprenticeship contract for a period of 14 months/20 months dependent on your educational requirements. The apprenticeship will consist of 4 elements: initial assessment, Functional Skills (Math's and English), job specific training (both in the workplace and off the job) culminating in an End Point Assessment of which you will be fully prepared. We want all our Healthcare Support Workers to become successful, competent and confident carers so we are committed to ensuring the ongoing development through a number of additional apprenticeship programmes thereafter; the opportunity to develop within University Hospitals Bristol and Weston starts here. We are currently only offering a Level 2 apprenticeship.

Once you have successfully completed all of the components of the apprenticeship within the agreed timescale, you will be guaranteed a permanent Healthcare Support Worker position.

Please note the Assessment Centre interview will be taking place on 31st August 2021. Please ensure you can make the date.

In return, you will need to have a caring and compassionate attitude, and have the ability to work with others in a busy, pressurized team environment. Flexibility is essential as you will be expected to work to a varied shift pattern to provide 24 hour cover, 7 days a week. You will be expected to work long shifts. If you are looking for fixed days or hours, this will not be possible as an Apprentice.

You must be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and have excellent interpersonal skills. You will be hard-working, with strong organisational skills and be willing to deliver excellent care directly to our patients, making a real difference to their stay in hospital.

Experience of working as a Healthcare Support Nursing Assistant is not essential, but experience of working in a care setting will support your application.

If you are shortlisted, our recruitment and selection process for ALL candidates is as follows:

You will be invited to attend a Numeracy and Literacy assessment; you will be notified as to the dates. On successful completion of the Numeracy and Literacy tests you will be invited to attend one of our assessment centres; testing will allow us to support successful applicants through the apprenticeship with compulsory Math's and English included where required.

During this assessment centre you will undertake a number of activities, you will also be told more about the Trust and what it's like to work here as a Healthcare Support Worker. This process helps you identify whether we are the right employer for you, and helps us identify if you are the right candidate for us. At the end, you will know if you have been successful and successful candidates will be asked to remain for a question and answer session where they will learn what happens next.

Our vacancies change regularly; therefore we cannot tell you categorically where the vacancies will be although we make every effort to accommodate you in a location that you are interested in. Apprenticeships are available in many areas however they are dependent on your current level of English and Math's therefore could limit the availability. This is discussed in more detail during the assessment centre
