We have an exciting opportunity to join us as aFamily Drug & Alcohol Substance Misuse Worker. The Family Drug and Alcohol Court (FDAC) offers an alternative form of care proceedings for families where children are at risk of significant harm due to parental substance misuse.  FDAC uses an intensive problem-solving, therapeutic approach that aims to provide parents with support to address their substance misuse and related problems, to enable them to parent their children safely.

A key feature of the FDAC model is the specialist multi-disciplinary team, made up of mental health specialists, drug and alcohol specialists, social workers and a clinical lead (part-time psychologist). The team works intensively with families going through the FDAC to support parents who struggle with substance misuse, ill mental health and/or domestic abuse, to make significant and sustained changes to their lives, in order for them to continue to care.

Role Responsibility
  • Toprovide specialist substance misuse expertise to the assessment of families and parents
  • Rapid initial and then ongoing assessment of parents
  • Contribute to the multidisciplinary formulation of intervention plans
  • Provide professional advice and development in relation to substance misuse within the FDAC team.
  • Write and present reports within Court

The FDAC team are based in Taunton but will work from both Taunton & Yeovil Court. As Taunton is the county town, transport links are great, with easy access to the M5, less than two hours by train to London and 40 minutes' drive in each direction to Bristol and Exeter. The FDAC team are a countywide service and successful applicants will be working with families across Somerset.

The Ideal Candidate

Having handled a significant caseload in a busy environment as a Recovery Worker or similar, you'll have a deep understanding of substance misuse and the Recovery Agenda. It's an extremely varied role, so flexibility, a track record of DANOS compliance and knowledge of relapse and other barriers to recovery will be vital. Naturally, we also look for Recovery Workers with excellent communication skills and, ideally, a vocational qualification, such as an NVQ 3 or equivalent.

Excellent IT skills with knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook etc. are essential for this role.
