At Dorset HealthCare we aspire to provide outstanding care to all our service users, and it's not just our fantastic healthcare professionals that help us achieve this, everyone plays a part including the Estates Team that maintains our hospitals, clinics and offices across Dorset.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, flexible and conscientious Maintenance Worker to join the 50 strong team delivering electrical, mechanical, and building maintenance services in all our premises across Dorset. These include minor injury units, in-patient hospitals, community clinics and offices.

Soon to be based at a new dedicated estates workshop and stores facility at Wareham, you will need to be flexible in your approach and be able to work as part of a team, prepared to adjust and change plans at short notice and react to incidents as they occur in a calm, caring and supportive manner. You may also be requested at times of high demand to work over-time at short notice.

The successful applicant will need to hold and maintain a full UK driving licence and will be provided with a trust vehicle (tracked 24/7 for work use only). They will possess good communication skills both written and verbal, have good IT skills, and be able to participate in an out of hours on-call service.

The post includes a Recruit and Retention Premium (subject to completion of training modules), and on-call allowance, and entry to the NHS pension scheme. Uniform is also provided.

There will be training and mentoring opportunities for developing the skills required in the role, some of which will require overnight attendance at various training venues.

This is a full-time, 37.50 hours per week post.

Apprenticeship opportunities may also be available.

The duties of the job include:
  • To undertake routine statutory and mandatory planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance activities across all sites
  • Work alongside and provide immediate support to your operational colleagues which include electricians, mechanical fitters, carpenters and building operatives, as well as clinical staff and managers.
  • Liaising with contractors.
  • Be prepared to work in hazardous areas taking all safety measures to prevent danger and avoid injury and damage to equipment.

  • Trust vehicles are always tracked, required to be taken home at night and can only be used whilst on Trust business.
  • The working area is pan Dorset and start (0800) and finish times (1600) are at the site of your first and last allocated job.
  • At times the role may require a significant amount of travel between sites in Dorset.
