What will the apprentice be doing?

Working with experienced Family Support staff to:
  • Establish sound and professional relationships with local families that have been referred as requiring support
  • Help identify the issues affecting these families and the ways in which local services are working with them
  • Assist in the development of a Family Plan, helping to implement and monitor its success
  • Work with families to help them achieve progress, giving them optimism and a fresh sense of hope

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Full training will be provided for all aspects of this role by experienced Family Support Workers. You will also be supported by University College Birmingham to attain the Children, Young People and Families Practitioner apprenticeship, completion of which also provides the Certificate in Higher Education in working with Children Young People and Families. UCB deliver a blended learning approach with some face to face classes in central Birmingham and some online training also.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

At the end of your apprenticeship you will be a qualified Children's Social Care professional and we will seek to retain you in a role that utilises the skills, knowledge and behaviours attained throughout the apprenticeship. Completion of this apprenticeship will enable you to apply for further employment with WCC as a Family Support Worker, subject to performance and available vacancies.

Because of the need for an enhanced DBS clearance before undertaking this role, you must be age 18 by September 2021 in order to apply. Some training delivery will be in Birmingham, please consider travel arrangements before you apply.
