Job Details

Your work will revolve around the vitally important duties undertaken by a Laboratory Technician and being an active resource for the various scientific groups within the Research Department, as well as general lab management duties to ensure the laboratory environment is maintained to a high standard.

You will work as part of a small team but have over 30 Scientists reliant on your expertise and efficiency. You will be regularly liaising with other Freeline teams on-site to help with everyday tasks which will include, among many others, tasks such as:
  • Supporting the team with sample handling, processing and management
  • Stock ordering, receipt and organising stock inventory
  • Waste Management
  • Organising international and domestic shipments
  • Being a primary point of contact for lab H&S issues and being a H&S champion, maintaining the highest standards possible and improving them where needed
  • Maintaining general lab cleanliness
  • Help maintain GCP compliance
  • Administrative duties, e.g. completing and filing sample processing paperwork in accordance with GCLP and Good Documentation Practice (GDP) guidelines
  • Expand your scientific expertise by helping the researchers as time allows
  • You will operate within a highly regulated environment giving you an opportunity to develop excellent attention to detail,
  • Technical-scientific skills, and an understanding of GCLP regulations and requirements

Responsibilities will include:
  • Processing order requests from the Research Department, and receipting and storing them on arrival
  • Preparing media for researchers and assisting with tasks such as assays, cell passaging and media changes
  • Completing routine Mycoplasma testing for Research cell lines
  • Organising shipping of samples domestically and internationally
  • General lab management duties including stock checking and ordering
  • Regular maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment
  • Assisting with organising repair /servicing/calibration of laboratory equipment
  • Assisting with document management and writing of standard operating procedures
  • Continuous Improvement of lab activities

Desired qualifications

  • For entry to the Technician Scientist (Level 5) apprenticeship you must have a total of 80 UCAS points including preferably a B in A -Level Biology or equivalent. Alternative experience and qualifications will be considered
  • No previous work experience is required for this role but a strong motivation to work in the industry of Gene Therapies must be shown
