You will investigate alleged breaches of planning control, carry out site inspections, collate evidence and report on your findings. You will work closely with and support our conservation, tree & hedge and enforcement officers. You need to be in good general health and have a reasonable level of fitness. A full driving licence and access to a car is essential, Flexible and able to occasionally work out-of-hours

The postholder will be trained and fully supported to:
  • investigate alleged breaches of planning control in accordance with processes and procedures
  • interpret and apply legislation, policy and government guidance with full support of the wider team
  • make recommendations following investigation
  • negotiate compliance following identification of breaches of planning control
  • process incoming and outgoing correspondence
  • use our planning system and mobile working IT to manage workload and contribute to the development and improvement of the system
  • comply with the requirements of the Human Rights Act, Police and Criminal Evidence Act, the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act and the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act as it relates to the enforcement process following full training

To be trained and fully supported to:
  • undertake comprehensive planning investigations including listed building and tree / hedge allegations
  • communicate effectively using various tools with customers, colleagues and partners
  • work in a systematic way in line with process and procedures
  • organise and prioritise caseload whilst being flexible and adaptable
  • create and amend records accurately on the planning system
  • use mobile working IT solution
  • interpret and apply planning legislation and policy once fully trained
  • write detailed investigation reports with examples provided in the early stages to assist
  • ensure the integrity of data in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation, training of which is provided during your induction into the council
  • understand how to treat confidential material and information
