We have long term placement opportunities available for Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist available at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, Callaghan House. To provide specialist triage, assessment, differential diagnosis and treatment/discharge recommendations to a range of children with speech, language and communication difficulties in a variety of settings including community clinics, schools, special schools etc. In order to meet local need there will be a requirement to work flexibly which may involve evenings and weekends.
  • To liaise with and offer advice in the management and implementation of Speech and Language Therapy programmes and to monitor and evaluate progress and revise programmes accordingly.
  • To provide skill based training for Local Authority, Trust and voluntary workers or carers, as required.
  • To keep up to date with new techniques and developments in order to maintenance evidence based practice.
  • To attend relevant course, meetings and special interest groups as appropriate.
  • To provide clinical supervision for more junior staff, peer support and undertake clinical discussion with Speech and Language Therapists, assistants, and volunteers, as appropriate.
  • To facilitate the development of carers in the development of problem solving/negotiation skills within training, support or peer review.
  • To work alongside, and delegate clinical activity to junior Speech and Language Therapists, Speech and Language Therapy Assistants (SLTAs), Bilingual SLTAs, Interpreters, Teaching Assistants and other support staff to deliver programmes devised and supervised by the
  • Speech and Language Therapist. To ensure parent(s) and carers are involved in and fully understand care plans and related homework activities.
  • To liaise with and/or train relevant professionals, may be uni-professional and/or interdisciplinary/agency.
  • To provide training sessions and placements for Speech and Language Therapy students and observation placements for students of related medical and AHP professionals.
  • To provide and demonstrate specialist evidence based programmes of care and follow care pathways and published evidence-based packages of care.
  • To provide leadership and support to junior members of the team including one to one supervision, IPDR, clinical supervision and first line management response where required.

  • Recognised Speech & Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
  • Well established knowledge of assessment tools relevant to the client group.
  • Experience of diagnosing language impairment.
  • Well established knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions relevant to the client group.
  • Well established knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to the client group.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills - including observation, listening and empathy skills
  • Knowledge and experience of working with children who use high and low tech AAC
  • Good auditory discrimination skills and ability to transcribe speech phonetically
  • Demonstrates ability to be a good team member
