Band 7 Neurosciences/Stroke Specialist Physiotherapist

The therapy department at Imperial College NHS Trust offers an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled specialist neuro-physiotherapist. This post offers rotations on our regional stroke services including the hyper-acute stroke unit, the acute neurology and neurosurgery services and the specialist level 2 rehabilitation beds based at Charing Cross Hospital. We have recently created a 4th rotation to support our major trauma and neurosurgery services at St Mary Hospital Paddington. The teams are supported by experienced Band 8 clinicians and are full integrated with the medical and nursing teams. Our acute inpatient services are working together with our community colleagues across North West London to optimise our patient rehabilitation experience, exploring innovative care pathways.

Within this framework of integrated services you will have the opportunity to develop advanced skills in managing patients with neurological impairments within the acute and rehabilitation setting. The therapy department at Imperial College has support from our clinical academics who provide guidance and support on getting started with research and promotion of evidence based practice.

We embrace a collaborative and patient focused approach to our care and take pride in developing and promoting our workforce to meet the demands of these service areas.

The major trauma and neurosurgery services at St Marys are based on the 19 bedded major trauma ward and Intensive care beds with step down beds and provide early acute rehab and assessment to promote safe transfer to the trauma units or rehabilitation services. On the Charing Cross Hospital site our stroke services have a 24 bedded hyperacute unit supported by a 20 bedded acute stroke unit. Our neurosurgery and acute neurology bed base is over 40. The Charing Cross Rehabilitation Unit has 19 beds of which 4 are virtual out in the community. Led by our Consultant in Rehabilitation we have close links with all the level 1 and 2 units across London. The team also support complex post surgical cases on ICU and outlying wards on all sites including Hammersmith Hospital.

We are committed to the professional development of our staff and provide a variety of educational and training opportunities that can include apprenticeship pathways to a degree level and other relevant specialist courses. We view this investment in our staff as essential to delivering high standards of patient care and positive patient experience.
