Earn £4k per year of university study in any degree subject, with paid summer training in hundreds of roles.

Cyber security: it’s an industry which is found everywhere in the modern world. And because society relies more and more on technology every day, the need for cyber security is constantly growing. Governments and businesses alike are searching for people with all kinds of skills – coders, analysts, entrepreneurs, linguists, project managers and more –coming together to protect our digital world.

That’s why our programme helps university students get the training they need to join a generation of cyber specialists. With paid summer work experience across government and industry, £4k of funding per year to help you at university, and paid summer training to help tech beginners level up, it’s time to discover the CyberFirst university bursary.

Who runs CyberFirst?

CyberFirst is led by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), which is a part of GCHQ, and introduces young people across the UK to the world of cyber security. Now in its sixth year, the programme has expanded to provide student courses, competitions and career opportunities for people from all backgrounds, allowing them to develop the skills needed for one of today’s most-sought-after specialisms.

What’s on offer?

CyberFirst is on the look-out for hundreds of UK students who want to take up bursary places. You can be studying for any degree subject, at any UK university, as long as you’re either starting your degree or have at least two years of full-time undergraduate study remaining in September 2022. • Help on graduation to place you in a graduate-level cyber security role within UK national security, government or industry

Who can be a CyberFirst bursary student?

First things first; you don’t need to be a programmer, as there are so many more skills involved in cyber security. Here’s what you need to have:

  • At least BBB (or predicted) in your A Levels (or equivalent to 120 UCAS points) in any subject – visit the UCAS Tariff calculator to see how many points your qualifications are worth

  • Dedication, team spirit, and the drive to protect our technology

Plus EITHER of the following:

You have or expect to have a place on an undergraduate degree or Integrated Master’s degree starting from September 2022, in any subject, at a UK university.

You’re already studying for an undergraduate degree or Integrated Master’s, with a minimum of two years left of your course from September 2022, and you’re on course for at least a 2:1 in your grades.

Ready to open up the world of cyber security?

Whatever your background, whatever subjects you’ve studied – as long as you meet the criteria above and bring lots of potential and curiosity about tech, we want to hear from you. Come and join CyberFirst.
