The role

We are looking for a Band 6 Senior Mental Health Practitioner to join the Liaison Psychiatry team based at North Devon District Hospital (NDDH).

The role is dynamic and challenging. Liaison psychiatry is the branch of psychiatry that specialises in the interface between medicine and psychiatry.

We accept referrals from in-patient wards and the Emergency Department. These include requests for specialist mental health assessment and interventions to people of all ages from 18 to end of life. The mental health presentations of those accessing our services are varied and include self-harm as well as both functional & organic mental illness.

We will be providing a 7 day per week 15 hours comprehensive service to patients, clinicians and carers hence the need to recruit to increase our hours.

We will support you to learn the skills you need to thrive in the role. Our Practice Lead has written a Competencies Framework to help staff new to Liaison to understand the skills needed and will support with Clinical Supervision. We will offer you the training and development support you need to begin a fulfilling career. In return, you will need to be motivated, flexible and eager to learn.

£31,365 - £37,890 per annum pro rata (Band 6) - Relocation package available*

About you

You would support us to deliver a specialist consultation-liaison service to referring clinicians and clinical teams, assisting them in decision making in difficult and complex cases, and providing both formal and informal education to qualified and unqualified staff.

One of the key aims of the service is to improve service user and carer experience, provide timely assessments and reduce or prevent admissions. Staff within the liaison service are also representing the Devon Partnership Trust in the general hospital setting and will play a vital role in communicating and maintaining a good working relationship between the two organizations.

We are seeking a person who has a substantial experience in crisis work, risk assessment, and risk management; managing a complex, busy community caseload and who can also demonstrate an excellent track record of communicating effectively as this is essential for this post. Experience of working with older adults would be desirable as we employ a flexible service across the age range. We seek motivated and innovative practitioners who wish to contribute to service development while developing their own leadership skills.

The location

Your base will be NDDH however under the current COVID-19 conditions this may be subject to alternative arrangements/change for example home working.
