About the apprenticeship

Duties

• Engaging with customers.
• Greet customers arriving for treatments, advise of products & services, general social chat.
• Taking payment.
• Assisting with stock control.
• Contribute ideas for merchandising / in store presentation.
• Help to establish a social media presence.
• Respond to phone calls including taking bookings for treatments.

Additional information

Merry Moon is a specialist retail outlet stocking items and service offers associated with health and wellbeing. Items include amongst others - Reiki treatments, wicca & witchcraft supplies, jewellery, incense, chakras, essential oils, burners, and ornaments and other home and giftware.

The position will be working alongside proprietor and manager, Karen O-Connor. The place of work is in a convenient town centre location offering a very pleasant relaxed atmosphere albeit the shop does become busy at times.

There will also be quiet times. Karen would be happy for the successful applicant to develop the Merry Moon social media presence or other marketing activity to promote the business, on and offline. Karen would also be keen for the new applicant to spend quiet time developing their knowledge of the product and service offer and practices of spiritual healing.

After a settling in period there may be scope to enrol on relevant courses to progress these skills and knowledge further.

Customer engagement is a crucial part of the role. The successful applicant will have a confident natural way of engaging with customers in relation to products and services but also more generally on a social level to make customers feel welcome and at ease.

The applicant will also have a genuine interest in the product and service offer.

Applications are welcome from people with some previous work experience but this would also be an ideal first job for someone with the above personal qualities. The offer of enrolment onto a customer service apprenticeship alongside employment is optional.

Qualifications

Good literacy and numeracy is essential.

The ability to speak Welsh would be an advantage but this is not essential.

Who can apply?

To be eligible to apply you:

  • will be at least 16 years of age at the time of making your application
  • will not be in full-time education (you can apply while still attending school/college/university but will have finished or intend to finish your studies by the time your apprenticeship starts)
  • will need to meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements to apply.

ALS eligibility

Please note that ALS our training providers have their own eligibility in order to provide the funding required to undertake an apprenticeship. You may not be eligible to apply if:

  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in ICT, Software, Web and Telecoms or a similar subject
  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in Business Administration, Customer Service or a similar subject

What are the benefits?  

How much will I be paid?

You will earn £19,240 a year while training. When you pass your apprenticeship you can apply for a permanent job at the Welsh Government. Within 2 years of starting your apprenticeship you could be earning £22,500. 

You will get 31 days holidays as well as 10 public and privilege days. We offer flexible working arrangements to help you get the right work/life balance. You will also be eligible for membership of the Civil Service Pension Scheme
